We hope your experience at UMB is free of hardship, but understand that some students may face financial emergencies. The resources below provide an overview of the options available to students who are experiencing a financial crisis.

  • Submit an Emergency Fund Application through your School/Program. Funding is available to U.S. and international students. Application requirements may vary.
  • Consider additional support such as on-campus employment, mental health support, financial aid advising, and the UMB Student Pantry.

School/Program Emergency Support

The Íøºì±¬ÁÏ School of Dentistry provides the Student Emergency Fund (SEF) is for currently enrolled dental and dental hygienist students who are experiencing a serious financial hardship due to a sudden or unforeseen event that requires additional emergency monetary assistance.

The Íøºì±¬ÁÏ Graduate School provides the Emergency Student Opportunity Fund (ESOF) to currently enrolled graduate students who are experiencing a serious financial hardship.

MD Students

If you are an MD student with questions about the emergency fund in the School of Medicine, contact Sofia Cascio, MBA, GCSC, director of student financial planning, at 410-706-4237 or scascio@som.umaryland.edu.

The Íøºì±¬ÁÏ School of Nursing provides the Student Emergency Fund to currently enrolled nursing students who are experiencing serious financial hardship.

The Íøºì±¬ÁÏ School of Pharmacy Student Emergency Fund (UMSOP-SEF) provides limited, financial assistance to currently enrolled students at UMSOP who have unexpected emergency expenses, particularly in situations of crisis, such as illness, the death of a family member, medical emergency, or the need for emergency housing, food or transportation.

The Íøºì±¬ÁÏ School of Social Work provides the Student Emergency Fund (SEF) for currently enrolled graduate students who are experiencing a serious financial hardship due to a sudden or unforeseen event that requires additional emergency monetary assistance.

The Íøºì±¬ÁÏ Francis King Carey School of Law provides the Student Emergency Fund (SEF) to currently enrolled students who are experiencing a serious financial hardship due to a sudden or unforeseen event that requires additional emergency monetary assistance.

Additional Support Options

  • The UMB Student Pantry is located in the SMC Campus Center and provides all UMB students access to nutritionally rich snacks and meals. 
  • Maryland's helps households buy the food they need. The Office of University Student Financial Assistance & Student Employment also provides guidance for students interested in SNAP.
  • Through the Maryland Food Bank makes it easy to find food banks near you.
  • supports pregnant people, parents, and guardians through healthy foods and additional support programs.

  • The Student Counseling Center(SCC) provide short-term, professional counseling and psychiatric services for currently enrolled full-time and part-time UMB students. Services are available in-person or virtually. 
  • If you are experiencing a crisis outside of the SCC's operating hours, you can call the After Hours Crisis Support Hotline at 410-328-8404, option 7.
  • The SCC also provides a list of resources for students who are experiencing a crisis
  • URecFit and Wellness offers individual wellness consultations to help you identity and reach your wellness goals.
