Faculty with the Agriculture Law Education Initiative (ALEI) will incorporate global perspectives into “Food, Farming, and Sustainability,” which examines food and agriculture law and policy, including the interfaces between agricultural production, environmental impacts, labor, food safety regulation, sustainability goals, land-use implications of food production, and the social impacts of food structures. ALEI faculty will also develop a global comparative agricultural law course that explores how global differences in local laws and policies, on topics like urban agriculture, food justice and access, food waste recovery, climate-smart production, secure land tenure, and farm business succession, inform different nations’ approaches toward these issues and how they could present opportunities for US policymakers to learn from countries that are also balancing sustainability goals with local food system resiliency.
