My grandfather who lives in Kashmir(India) suffers from COPD. He is 80 and lives with his wife. He is to be vaccinated against covid in a couple of days. Being a COPD patient, does he need his doctor's supervision? Or is it okay for him to get vaccinated without any supervision from a family member or medical staff?

There is no special supervision necessary for an older adult with COPD or other high-risk medical conditions. However, all vaccinations should be performed in settings where persons can be observed for 15 minutes after vaccination for possible and rare immediate allergic reactions (such as anaphylaxis).  This does not mean family members or medical staff need to be present, but that the personnel manning the vaccination clinic have specific training on administering vaccines and also on the  management of allergic reactions.
