I am 64 and my wife is 62. We both received the initial series of two COVID 19 vaccines in 2021 (Pfizer for me, Moderna for her). We also kept up with all the recommended boosters (3) for a total of five doses each, the last in November of 2022. We have not had a booster since then. In April we are scheduled to travel to Europe on a 14 day transatlantic cruise and then we are spending three additional weeks visiting different countries. Given our vaccination history is it advisable that we take the latest booster update? That would be a total of six doses since 2021. Neither of us is immunocompromised. I asked my personal physician and he said it was 鈥渦p to me鈥. My wife asked her physician and he recommended taking the additional booster. Additionally, the CDC guidance for people over the age of 6 is to get the new update. However, six doses seems like a lot. I鈥檓 confused. Any guidance will be appreciated. Thank you.
For persons age less than 65 years old and if you have already received the booster dose in the fall 2023, there is no additional dose of 2023–2024 Formula COVID-19 vaccine recommended. The additional dose at this time is for persons 65 years of age and older; this is a age demographic that has demonstrated a continued high risk of hospitalizations and deaths with a Covid infection.
