Our 27 year old son was diagnosed with Covid recently. Fortunately he never experienced anything more than mild cold symptoms. No fever or headache, just a sore throat and congestion. He had a positive rapid test the same day his symptoms started, 14 days ago. He still has some tingling in his throat. He has been isolating the whole time. Does he need to continue isolating until his throat is completely back to normal? Would getting a Covid test tell us anything about whether he could still spread the virus?

The CDC states that a person can end home isolation when:

At least 10 days since symptoms first appeared AND
At least 24 hours with no fever without fever-reducing medication AND
Other symptoms of COVID-19 are improving
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/if-you-are-sick/isolation.html

Therefore, no need for further testing and this person is free to re-join society. However, this person (and everybody else) should continue to observe masking, physical distancing, hand washing, etc. to continue to help prevent further spread of the virus.
