My husband and I received our bivalent vaccine pretty early in the process (September 2022). We were wondering if it has become less effective and if we need to get a second bivalent shot in March (six months later). How long is the bivalent vaccine effective? I couldn't find anything in the literature and haven't heard anything in the news.

It is probable there is waning of immunity from vaccination in September 2022 (4 months ago). We do not know how much nor how fast immunity may decline after the bivalent booster dose--there are little public data at present. There is an FDA VRBPAC meeting on January 26, 2023 which may discuss current data from the bivalent vaccine.

And, there is a CDC ACIP meeting in February which may also discuss data from the bivalent vaccine.

Currently, there is no imminent announcement for a recommendation to obtain another (second) bivalent booster dose.  The discussion regarding Covid vaccines is primarily on making the guidance easier for vaccination for the future.
