Yesterday we attended a family gathering in a home. One granddaughter spent the time in her room, not feeling well (sore throat & tired). When my husband and I returned home, our son called to inform us that 2 of the children tested positive for COVID. Question: Should we stay away from church, pickle ball class, and the annual holiday dinner with fellow beekeepers held at an area restaurant?
It is probable that all attendees of the family gathering were exposed to Covid, given the scenario that 2 or maybe 3 persons are now known to have been infected and shedding virus at that gathering. It would be prudent to quarantine yourselves (all exposed attendees) for the next 5 days. During these 5 days, if a person MUST leave the home quarantine then they should wear a well-fitting mask (e.g., KN95 mask) to perform important tasks which cannot be delayed and to make those interactions in public as brief as possible and using good judgement to not expose other people as best as possible. Also during the 5 days of quarantine, monitor yourselves for any symptoms of Covid. You can test at 5 days and if you remain asymptomatic and have a negative test, then you can be free of self-quarantine. On the other hand, if you test positive at any time, then that means you are infected (whether symptomatic or asymptomatic) and thereby are infectious—you must now isolate yourself (this is to distinguish from quarantine).
So, the brief answer is “yes, stay away from church, pickle ball class, and the annual holiday dinner with fellow beekeepers held at an area restaurant
