This is more of a curiosity question as I'm not able to find anything online to answer my question. My fiancé started showing symptoms last Monday(7 days ago) and tested positives last Wednesday(5 days ago) with two tests(both positive). Just a little background my fiancé works from home and hasn't been in a public forum with a crowd indoors for 3-4 weeks. So I figured I caught it and unknowingly passed it to her. I tested last Wednesday(5 days ago) as well and tested negative twice. Last Friday(3 days ago) I started showing symptoms so I tested again and again came up negative so I figured I just caught a cold. Today(Monday) I lost my sense of taste and smell so I tested again and finally came back positive. So my question is it possible I was able to transmit covid to my fiancé even though I was displaying no symptoms and testing negative only to finally test positive 5 days after she did and a full week after she started showing symptoms?
It is possible that you passed infectious virus to your fiancé while asymptomatic but it seems more likely that your fiancé was infected first, based solely on the timing of onset of symptoms. Being in crowded public spaces is the highest risk but anytime a person is exposed to another person’s exhaled breath presents an opportunity for transmission of the virus. It could be a <1 minute ride in an elevator, outdoors waiting in a small line but downwind of others, etc.
