Recently I went on a five day vacation with my mom and her friend. My mom has just got back from Australia and I was already up in Baltimore where we went on vacation. My mom had been tired and coughing and we thought it was jet lag but then her friend in the next bed over also started coughing a lot. Her friend stayed in Baltimore and we went home. The next day her friend texted and said he tested positive for Covid. My mom and I both tested and she is positive while I am negative(we did at home test and PCR). As I am only 15 I still have to interact with my mom. When I do I wear a mask, but she also has to drive me places. She first started having symptoms at the start of our vacation which was about 6-7 days prior to this. I just wanted to know how large my likely hood of getting Covid is since I have to interact with her so much and if she is contagious anymore because I heard 5 days after symptoms you are not contagious anymore. Thankyou so much

Although you tested negative, you have had significant and substantial exposure to Covid. So, you must quarantine. The guideline is that you stay at home for AT LEAST 5 days, then you MUST wear a well-fitting mask for another AT LEAST 5 days when outside the home.  You may still be contagious beyond 10 days, so I always encourage people to continue to wear a well-fitting mask outside the home until you can be assured that the last person in the household exposure group has tested negative and/or reached the 10 days from their initial exposure.
