My mother lives in rural Maine, where deer like to congregate under her window within 6 feet of her house. She is concerned that leaving the windows open (even on the 2nd floor) will mean that she might catch some of the same air that the deer are breathing out, thereby catching Covid-19. - is there really a possibility? I don't want her to live this fearfully.

There is some evidence that the Covid virus can infect deer and those infected deer can infect humans. However, windows on the 2nd floor are at extremely low risk for being an exposure risk to the virus.  I believe there is enough elevation and “fresh” air that this will not be a problem.
