The experience of altered taste and smell is not unusual for Covid infection but in most instances after full recovery there are no further episodes of altered taste and smell without another infection. However, we are only just beginning to learn and understand all the different effects of the virus. Could it be that the spring allergy season is playing a role in causing you to experience altered taste and smell after some damage from the Covid virus infection? I don’t have answers, but I believe a lot of people are dealing with many different aspects of “long Covid” and this longer-term altered taste and smell is probably one of the unfortunate after-effects of this important infection. There is some data that suggests that re-training your olfactory (smell) and tastebuds may help with recovery.
