My just-turned-80 year-old aunt, who has a slightly lower than normal immunity system, took two Advil for back pain about one to one-and-a-half hours after receiving 2nd Covid booster. Would this have dulled the effectiveness of her medication? She is traveling across country by air in a few weeks to visit family and is concerned if the medication effectiveness has been dulled, even though she might not catch anything, could she then more easily carry the virus to family members? Also, about 30 hours prior to receiving the booster, she had about 3.5 oz of 80 proof liquor to get to sleep. Would that have had an impact on the effectiveness? Thank you so very much for any information concerning this.

The effect of taking Advil and/or an alcoholic beverage probably represents a very very minor determinant in a person’s optimal response to vaccination. I am glad that she received her second booster dose, as her age alone (80 years of age) is an important risk factor for severe illness, hospitalization, or death with Covid.
