Covid infection has been known to alter a person’s sense of smell. Most of the popular reporting describes the loss of smell, but there are many scientific reports of observations of “altered” smell, including some smells that were once considered pleasant become unpleasant. So, the description of being able to pick up “unique” smells from room to room appears to be part of the spectrum of “altered” smell. In other words, familiar smells that you may not have noticed previously are now being perceived differently such that you notice differences from room to room. The typical pattern is that your sense of smell will slowly return back to your “normal”, for some people that is a couple of weeks and for some people it could take many months.
