Is an increase in adults getting vaccinated, especially now with Delta, going to put young kids at increased risk for covid since they will be the only ones left unvaccinated? I am all for pushing adults and teens to get vaccinated, but worried that as we have seen Covid increasing across the US in children this week, our elementary age children may now be prey for the Delta variant. Please clarify if this is a wrong assumption. Thanks (a mom of three kids under the age of 10).

An increase of adults (and adolescents age 12 years of age and older) getting fully vaccinated will REDUCE the overall risk of children because there will be fewer persons in the total population that remain vulnerable.  Fewer unvaccinated persons means fewer opportunities for the virus to be passed from person to person.  However, with the rise of the Delta variant (and future highly transmissible variant viruses) is a reminder that vaccination PLUS masking and physical distancing are all important in limiting the transmission oof the virus.
